The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the radio licence issued to someone who has completed both SRC training and assessment. If you sit the course at Urban Truant’s training facilities in Swanwick Marina, then your exam will automatically be held at the end of the day. If however, you choose to complete the online version of the course, you will still need to attend an RYA centre in order to sit the exam.
The exam consists of two parts: a written paper, and practical use of a marine VHF (Very High Frequency) Radio / DSC (Digital Selective Calling) set. The written paper and practical session each take 30 minutes, but we ask that you attend for two hours. This enables us to complete the necessary administration (form and passport photo), and gives you some time to familiarise yourself with our ICOM VHF/DSC sets over a coffee prior to the assessments. You will learn your exam result immediately and Urban Truant will submit your paperwork to the RYA, who will issue your certificate by post.
You do not have to have completed your online SRC course through Urban Truant to come to our facilities and sit your exam with us. Anyone who requires an SRC assessment is welcome!
