The RYA Cruising Instructor course provides a gateway to working in the marine industry as an RYA Instructor.  Once completed you will have the qualification needed to approach any RYA Training Centre and deliver the following courses: RYA Start Yachting, RYA Competent Crew, RYA Day Skipper Sail.

The RYA Cruising Instructor course provides a gateway to working in the marine industry as an RYA Instructor.  Once completed you will have the qualification needed to approach any RYA Training Centre and deliver the following courses: RYA Start Yachting, RYA Competent Crew, RYA Day Skipper Sail, RYA Sail Cruising Level 1 and Level 2. It's also the experience-building stepping stone you'll need should you want to go on and become a Yachtmaster™ Instructor.

The course is structured over 5 days, culminating in a moderation day on day 5 by an external RYA assessor. Each day you will be provided with skills, knowledge and teaching techniques to enable you to become an ambassador for the RYA and the training centre you are working for.

Award of the Cruising Instructor qualification requires successful demonstration of personal skills and teaching ability during the course and moderation sessions.
 
Pre-Course
Experience		To join a Cruising Instructor course, you will need to meet all of the following criteria:
  • A commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster™ Offshore Certificate of Competence (Sail)
  • An up-to-date First Aid certificate
  • The online Professional Practices and Responsibilities Certificate (PPR)
  • An RYA Personal Membership
  • Completed the RYA Cruising Instructor online pre-course knowledge check
Assumed
Knowledge		Sailing and skippering ability to the level of an experienced and competent RYA Yachtmaster™ Offshore.
Student
Instructor Ratio		Maximum 4:1
Duration5 days (including time with an external assessor)
Course
Content		Assessment is continual throughout the course. You will be expected to prove you can be a good instructor by give convincing demonstrations of any part of the RYA Competent Crew and RYA Day Skipper syllabuses.
Ability after
Course		You will be able to work with any RYA Training Centre to deliver a range of yachting courses up to RYA Day Skipper Sail.
